Tomato Saar Tomato Saar is similar to Rasam, but then again, it is very different. Because of its soup like consistency, this makes for a good appetizer. But it can also be mixed with rice. By Sanjeev Kapoor 04 Nov 2014 in Recipes Veg New Update Tomato Saar Main Ingredients Tomatoes, Coconut Cuisine Karnataka Course Soups Prep Time 20-25 minutes Cook time 10-15 minutes Serve 4 Taste Sweet and Sour Level of Cooking Easy Others Veg Ingredients 5-6 tomatoes chopped, ripe and large 1 cup scraped coconut 6 garlic cloves 1 teaspoon cumin seeds Salt to taste 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder 2 tablespoons ghee 1 teaspoon mustard seeds a pinch asafoetida 8-10 curry leaves 3-4 green chillies, slit 2-3 tablespoons sugar 1/4 cup fresh coriander leaves, chopped Method Grind together the coconut, garlic and cumin seeds. Take the tomatoes in a pan, add salt and red chilli powder and three cups of water and bring it to a boil. Simmer for fifteen minutes and make a puree when it is a little cool. Heat the pure ghee in a pan and add the mustard seeds. As they begin to splutter, add the asafetida and curry leaves. Add the tomato puree and green chillies. Bring to a boil and add sugar and coconut paste. Cook on low heat for ten minutes. Adjust seasoning.
