British cuisine has always been a multicultural - a pot pourri of eclectic styles.  However Britain's culinary expertise is not new! In the past British cooking was amongst the best in the world.  Traditional British cuisine is substantial, yet simple and wholesome. 
British cuisine today has a variety that wipes off the image of grey boiled meat.   In London especially, one can not only experiment with the best of British, but the best of the world as there are many distinct ethnic cuisines to sample, Chinese, Indian, Italian and Greek restaurants are amongst the most popular.

Ingredients for Sticky Date Pudding - Nutralite Recipe

  • Refined flour (maida) sifted 1 cup

  • Dates pitted and chopped 1 cup

  • Nutralite 90 grams

  • Soft brown sugar 1/2 cup

  • Soda bicarbonate 1/2 teaspoon

  • Eggs 2

  • Vanilla essence 1 teaspoon

  • For sauce

  • Soft brown sugar 1 cup

  • Cream 1 cup

  • Nutralite 90 grams

  • Vanilla essence 1/2 teaspoon

Method

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 180°C.

Step 2

Brush a deep seven inch square cake tin with melted Nutralite and line the base with butter paper.

Step 3

Put dates and soda bicarbonate in a heat proof bowl and add one cup of boiling water. Stir and leave for fifteen minutes.

Step 4

Using an electric beater, beat the Nutralite and brown sugar until light and creamy. Beat in eggs gradually. Add vanilla essence.

Step 5

Fold in half of the sifted flour then half of the date mixture. Stir in the remaining flour and dates. Mix well.

Step 6

Pour into the prepared tin and bake in the preheated oven for fifty minutes or till a skewer inserted in the pudding comes out clean.

Step 7

Leave the pudding in the tin to cool for ten minutes before turning out.

Step 8

To make the sauce, take sugar, cream, Nutralite and vanilla essence in a pan and bring to a boil, stirring continuously. Reduce the heat and simmer for five minutes.

Step 9

Serve warm with hot sauce.
