Ingredients list for Simit
- 2 cups Refined flour (maida)
- ½ teaspoon Fresh yeast
- ½ teaspoon Sugar
- + for greasing Olive oil 1 tablespoon
- ½ teaspoon Sea salt
- 1 tablespoon Maple syrup
- for coating Sesame seeds (til) toasted
Method
- Pour one cup of warm water into a bowl. Add yeast, sugar and oil and whisk well.
- Add flour and salt, mix and knead into a soft dough. Grease a bowl with some olive oil, place the dough in it and set aside for one hour.
- Whisk together maple syrup with one tablespoon of water and set aside.
- Preheat oven to 200°C.
- Divide the dough into eight equal portions.
- Take a portion of the dough and start rolling with your hands into a thin long cylinder. Bring together the two ends and start twisting the dough. Gently stretch to make into a ring and seal the edges.
- Dip the simits in the diluted maple syrup and coat with sesame seeds. Place them on a baking tray and set aside for five to ten minutes.
- Place the tray in the preheated oven and bake for twenty to twenty-five minutes. Remove from oven and cool.
- Serve.
