History of Indian cuisine dates back to nearly 5,000-years ago when various groups and cultures interacted with India that led to a diversity of flavours and regional cuisines.

Indian food is also influenced by religious and cultural choices and traditions. 
Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Phulka - SK Khazana Recipe

  • Whole wheat flour 1 1/2 cups

  • Salt to taste

  • Oil 2 tablespoons

Method

Step 1

Mix together flour, salt and oil in a bowl. Add sufficient water, little by little and knead into soft dough. Cover with a damp cloth and rest for 10-15 minutes.

Step 2

Divide the dough into equal portions, shape them into balls, coat in flour and roll out into a phulka.

Step 3

Heat a non-stick tawa. Cook each phulka till brown specs are formed on the underside. Transfer to direct flame and let it puff. Remove from heat.

Step 4

Place them on individual thalis and serve hot with achaar and bhaji.
