Ingredients

  • ¾ cup split red lentils (masoor dal), soaked for 1 hour and drained
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 tbsp chopped garlic
  • ½ tsp crushed black peppercorns
  • ½ tsp red chilli powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 medium tomato, chopped
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • Fresh mint sprigs for garnish

Method 

  1. Heat a pressure cooker, add onion, garlic, masoor dal and mix well.
  2. Add crushed black peppercorns, red chilli powder and salt and mix well.
  3. Add tomato, 3 cups water, lemon juice and mix well.
  4. Cover and cook on medium heat till 3-4 whistles are released.
  5. Open the cooker once the pressure settles completely.
  6. Transfer in a grinder jar, add 1 cup water and grind to fine puree.
  7. Transfer in a serving bowl, garnish with mint sprigs and serve.
