Ingredients list for Masoor Dal Soup

  • 1 cup Tata Sampann Masoor Whole
  • 1 tablespoon Oil
  • 1 Medium onion chopped
  • 3/4 cup Pumpkin chopped
  • 1 Medium carrot peeled and chopped
  • 1 Medium tomato chopped
  • 1/2 tablespoon Garlic finely chopped
  • 4-5 Fresh coriander roots washed
  • to taste Salt
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons Butter
  • to garnish Burnt garlic
  • to garnish Chives

Method

  1. Take Tata Sampann Masoor Whole in a bowl, add sufficient water and soak for 20-25 minutes.
  2. Heat oil in a pressure cooker, add onion, pumpkin, carrot, tomato, and garlic. Mix well and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  3. Break coriander roots and add to the cooker. Add soaked dal, mix well and saute for 1-2 minutes. Add salt and mix well. Add 3 cups water and mix well. Place the lid on and cook under pressure till 4-5 whistles are released.
  4. Allow the pressure to reduce completely before opening the cooker. Blend the mixture using an electric hand blender till smooth.
  5. Add butter and mix well. Strain the soup into another pan and adjust salt.
  6. Pour the soup into individual soup bowls, garnish with burnt garlic and chives and serve hot.
