Ingredients list for Italian Fish Steaks

  • 4 King fish (surmai) fillets
  • to taste Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon White pepper powder
  • 1 tablespoon Mustard paste
  • 3 tablespoons Lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup Refined flour (maida)
  • 4 tablespoons Oil
  • 1 medium Onion chopped
  • 5 cloves Garlic chopped
  • 1 large Tomato seeded and chopped
  • 5-6 Black olives pitted and chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Capers
  • 8 Fresh basil leaves
  • 1 Lemon cut into wedges

Method

  1. Season fillets with salt, white pepper powder, mustard paste and lemon juice. Roll the fillets in refined flour and coat well on both sides. Heat oil in a pan or skillet and fry the fish for five minutes on each side till golden brown.
  2. Drain and place on a serving dish and keep warm. In the same pan sauté onions and garlic until tender. Add tomato, olives, capers and four hand torn basil leaves.
  3. Add salt and white pepper power and cook for around five minutes or till you get the desired consistency. Spoon the sauce over the fish and serve hot garnished with lemon wedges and remaining basil leaves.
