Ever imagined what life would be without some meetha? The gulab jamuns, barfis, pedas, laddoos, modaks, halwas…you can say let the sugar substitutes rule but not everything is possible with substitutes! One of oldest flavourings and condiments used by mankind, this ingredient is an instant provider of energy. Also available in various types, sugar is either derived from sugarcane or beetroot.

Ingredients for Easy Southern Pralines Recipe

  • Castor sugar (caster sugar) 1 cup

  • brown sugar/jaggery ½ cup

  • Vanilla essence 1 teaspoon

  • Cajun spice 1 teaspoon

  • Salt a pinch

  • Pecans roasted and chopped 1½ cups


Step 1

Line a baking tray with a silicon mat.

Step 2

Heat castor sugar and brown sugar in a non-stick pan and cook till they caramelize.

Step 3

Remove from heat, add vanilla essence, Cajun spice, salt and pecans and mix till the mixture thickens.

Step 4

Place spoons full of the mixture on the lined tray and set aside to cool.
