Ingredients list for Childrens Party Cake

  • 200 gms + for dusting Refined Flour
  • 4 tablespoons Butter
  • 200 gms + for greasing Butter
  • 200 grams Icing sugar
  • 3 Eggs
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 1 tbsp + 1 teaspoon Orange zest
  • 4 Oranges peeled and separated into segments
  • 6-7 Chocolate wafer straws
  • 6 Strawberry wafer biscuits
  • Colourful candies for decoration
  • Chocolate sprinklers for decoration
  • Frosting
  • 100 grams Dark chocolate melted
  • 100 grams Butter melted
  • 200 millilitres Double cream
  • 2 tablespoons Orange zest

Method

  1. Preheat oven at 180°C. Line a round cake tin buy greasing with butter and dusting with refined flour.
  2. Dissolve cocoa powder in 1 cup water.
  3. Cream butter and icing sugar in a bowl with an electric beater till fluffy.
  4. Add dissolved cocoa powder and beat again. Add eggs and beat again. Add 200 gms refined flour, baking powder, 1 tbsp orange zest and fold the mixture till well blended.
  5. Pour the prepared batter in the lined cake tin, spreads evenly and tap the tin. Place the tin the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes.
  6. To make frosting, take melted chocolate in a bowl. Add melted butter and cream and mix well. Refrigerate till set.
  7. Add orange zest and mix well. Set aside. When the cake is done, remove from oven, cool and demould. Discard the top of the cake and slice the cake horizontally into halves.
  8. Spread a portion of frosting evenly on the base slice, place half of the orange segments on top and cover with the upper slice.
  9. Spread some more portion of frosting evenly on top with the help of a palate knife and line the sides as well with the frosting.
  10. Clean the palate knife by dipping in warm water. even out the top and sides with the clean knife. Halve the chocolate wafer straws and place them vertically all along the side of the cake.
  11. Halve the strawberry wafer biscuits and place them in between the straws. Place remaining orange segments along the edge of the cake on top.
  12. Sprinkle lots of colourful candies in the centre, 1 tsp orange zest and chocolate sprinklers on top.
  13. Serve.
