Ingredients list for Andaman Erra Kuttu

  • 500 grams Prawns shelled
  • 2 medium Onions chopped
  • to taste Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Oil
  • 2 cloves Garlic chopped
  • 7-8 Black peppercorns
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 1 tablespoon Tender ginger
  • 2 cups Coconut milk
  • 1 teaspoon Red chilli powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 Green chilli slit

Method

  1. De-vein and wash prawns thoroughly. Apply salt and keep aside for fifteen minutes.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, add chopped onions, garlic and peppercorns.
  3. Fry until the onions and garlic are soft. Add mustard and cumin seeds.
  4. Mix in tamarind pulp, coconut milk, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, salt and slit green chilli.
  5. Cover and simmer for ten minutes. Add prawns, simmer for ten minutes or till the prawns are cooked.Serve hot.
