Namkeen champakali is a crunchy and flavourful teatime snack. These intricately shaped spirals are made with refined flour dough, deep-fried and then seasoned with a spice blend that give them a delightful taste. Champakalis can be made sweet too and is usually made during festivals.
These are stuffed puris – whole wheat dough balls stuffed with spiced sattu mixture, rolled into puris and deep-fried. These puris make a great weekend breakfast snack. Sattu has a very high content of protein making it a very valuable source for vegetarians and vegans too.
This vada tastes just awesome as the popular street food served as vada pav. What is different is the way it is served. You can call this reverse vada pav or ulta vada pav. The potato mixture is stuffed in the pav, then dipped in gram flour batter and deep-fried. And then served like a chaat sprinkled with the chutneys, chopped onion and nylon sev.
Theplas are traditional flatbread from Gujarat, made with whole wheat flour or millet flours, spices, herbs, yogurt and greens or vegetables like fresh fenugreek leaves or radish or bottle gourd. They are low in calories with very little oil or ghee or butter used to cook them. But they are rich in fiber and other nutrients.
Stuffed paranthe can be made with a variety of stuffing. Among them the more popular ones are aloo, gobhi, mooli but you can use some other vegetables too. Like here we have used suran or yam which will probably surprise you. But do try it out and you will not regret it.
In a way these are South Indian style namakpare. Made with rice flour, green chillies and curry leaves they have a distinct flavour that is so very irresistible. They can be served with cups of hot coffee or packed in tiffin box of your children.
