Super healthy, cabbage goes a long way back. In ancient times, the Greeks treated it as a special food for its many medicinal properties. There are tales about raw cabbage juice being a standard treatment for a nasty hangover! Salads, dals, sabzis, pickles and even raitas, cabbage does full justice to each preparation. Shop for the ones that have a crisp, shiny look to it.

Ingredients for Vazul Bandhgubhi Recipe

  • Cabbage 1 large

  • Red chilli powder (deghi mirch) 1 tablespoon

  • Asafoetida 1/4 teaspoon

  • Mustard oil 2 tablespoons

  • Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Turmeric powder 1/4 teaspoon

  • Dry ginger powder (soonth) 1 teaspoon

  • Fennel seed (saunf) powder 1 tablespoon


Step 1

Wash, clean and chop the cabbage. Keep aside. Mix the red chilli powder with two tablespoons of water and keep aside.

Step 2

Mix asafoetida in one teaspoon of water and keep aside. Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds and when they change colour add the cabbage and sauté for two minutes.

Step 3

Add salt, red chilli water, asafoetida water, turmeric powder and cover and cook till half done. Add a little water if required.

Step 4

Add ginger powder and fennel powder and cook further till done. Serve hot.
