Heat a cast iron pan. Add butter and let it melt. Place the sourdough slices on the pan and toast on both sides on low heat till golden and crisp. Take slices off the heat and arrange on a worktop. Cut the avocados in half, remove the seed, peel, and cut each half of the avocados into thin slices. Apply some cream cheese over one side of the toasted bread slices. Arrange the avocado slices over them and sprinkle crushed black peppercorns and salt. Garnish with pickled onion rings.
