How many times have we thought rice is a blessing? We use it for holy purposes but we also can pressure up a quick pulao or khichdi when hunger pangs are drumming away! This is one grain that is about 98% percent digestible. In India we are familiar with Basmati, Patna or brown rice but it is also available as Italian Rice and Glutinous Rice which is popular in Chinese and Japanese cuisines.

Cook time : 31-40 minutes

Ingredients for Rice Recipe

  • Basmati rice 2 cups

  • Salt to taste


Step 1

To cook rice on the gas stove, take the amount of water in the ratio 1:2, i.e., for every one part of rice there is two parts of water.

Step 2

Wash ½ cup rice under running water. Drain and soak for 20 minutes.

Step 3

Heat a deep non-stick pan and add 1 cup boiling water to it.

Step 4

Drain the rice and add to the pan alongwith salt. Cover and cook till it comes to a boil. Reduce heat and cook for 15 minutes or till the rice is fully done. Let it stand for 3-5 minutes and serve hot.

Step 5

To cook rice in microwave, take a baking dish. Add ½ cup rice and spread evenly. Add 1½ cups of water and salt, cover the dish with cling film, make small holes on it for steam to escape and place in microwave on HIGH (100%) for 15 minutes.

Step 6

Remove cling film, mix the rice and serve hot.
