How many times have we thought rice is a blessing? We use it for holy purposes but we also can pressure up a quick pulao or khichdi when hunger pangs are drumming away! This is one grain that is about 98% percent digestible. In India we are familiar with Basmati, Patna or brown rice but it is also available as Italian Rice and Glutinous Rice which is popular in Chinese and Japanese cuisines.

Ingredients for How to make Dosa Batter Recipe

  • Parboiled rice soaked for 4-5 hours 2 3/4 cups

  • Split skinless black gram (urad dal) soaked for 4-5 hours 1 cup

  • Short-grained raw rice soaked for 4-5 hours 1/4 cup

  • Fenugreek seeds (methi dana) soaked 1 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste


Step 1

Combine parboiled rice, black gram, raw rice and fenugreek seeds in a grinder jar. Grind well into a smooth and thick batter using water as required, little by little.

Step 2

Transfer batter into a bowl and set aside to ferment for 8 hours.

Step 3

Add salt, mix well and use as required.
