Indian cuisine comprises of a number of regional cuisines.  The diversity in soil type, climate, culture, ethnic group and occupations, these cuisines differ from each other mainly due to the use of locally available spices, herbs, vegetables and fruits. Indian food is also influenced by religious and cultural choices and traditions. 
Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Dahi Poha Tadka Recipe

  • Yogurt 1 1/2 cups

  • Pressed rice thick 1 1/2 cups

  • Oil 1 1/2 teaspoons

  • Asafoetida a pinch

  • Mustard seeds 1/2 teaspoon

  • Cumin seeds 1/2 teaspoon

  • Onions chopped 2 medium

  • Ginger finely chopped 1 inch piece

  • Curry leaves 10-15

  • Green chillies seeded and chopped 2

  • Turmeric powder 1/4 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Fresh coriander leaves chopped 2 tablespoons


Step 1

Wash and soak poha for five minutes. Drain well.

Step 2

Heat oil in a non-stick pan. Add asafoetida, mustard seeds, cumin seeds and sauté for a minute. Add onions and ginger and continue to sauté for two minutes. Add curry leaves and green chillies and sauté for one minute.

Step 3

Add the yogurt and turmeric powder and mix well. Add salt and mix. Add coriander leaves and mix. Add the poha and mix well.

Step 4

Serve hot.
