Ingredients list for Brown Rice Payasam
- 1/2 cup Brown Rice soaked in water for 3-4 hours
- 1 litre Full cream milk
- 6-8 Saffron (kesar)
- 10-12 Cashewnuts chopped
- 2 teaspoons Raisins
- 1/2 cup Dates seeded and chopped
- 1/4 cup Sugar
- 10 Pistachios
Method
- Heat milk in a deep non stick pan. Drain and crush brown rice coarsely. Add this to the milk and cook till rice is almost done.
- Add saffron and mix and continue to cook. Add cashewnuts, raisins, dates and cook till everything blends well.
- Add a little water or milk if the mixture is too thick and cook till rice is completely done. Add a little sugar if you want the payasam sweeter.
- Garnish with pistachios and serve warm.
