Ingredients for Brown Bread - SK Khazana Recipe

  • Whole wheat flour 2 cups

  • Refined flour 2 cups

  • Milk powder 2 tablespoons

  • Castor sugar 2 teaspoons

  • Salt 1 teaspoon

  • Activated yeast 2 tablespoons

  • Softened butter 2 tablespoons

  • Milk wash as required

  • Melted butter as required

Method

Step 1

Sieve whole wheat flour, refined flour and milk powder into a bowl. Add castor sugar and salt and mix well. Make a well in the centre, add yeast and mix. Add sufficient water and knead into soft dough.

Step 2

Dust plain flour on the worktop, keep the dough on it and knead stretching it a little. Apply softened butter and continue to knead. Keep the dough in a bowl, cover with a damp cloth and set aside for 20-25 minutes to prove.

Step 3

Dust flour on the worktop, keep the dough on it and knock back the dough. Roll the dough into a disc of medium thickness. Fold from one end to the other to make a log.

Step 4

Place the log in a greased and dusted bread tin and cover with a damp muslin cloth. Keep aside to prove for 15-20 minutes.

Step 5

Preheat the oven at 180º C.

Step 6

Brush milk on top, keep the tin in the preheated oven bake it for 15-20 minutes. Take it out of the oven and brush melted butter on top.

Step 7

Let it cool down to room temperature. Slice and serve.
