Why is it that when you are stuck at “what should we cook today” the answer is always “make some aloo!” Potatoes are like this…extremely popular and have multipurpose usage.

And did you always think that eating a potato will make you fat?
Well, don’t – it is a surprising source of vitamin C and provides useful amounts of starch, thiamine and niacin and around a hundred grams will provide about eighty calories.

Ingredients for Aloo Til Tikki Recipe

  • Potatoes boiled, peeled and mashed 3-4 large

  • Sesame Seeds

  • Pure ghee 2 tablespoons

  • White sesame seeds roasted 1 cup

  • Green chillies chopped 2 tablespoons

  • Rock salt (sendha namak) to taste

  • Asafoetida a pinch

  • Red chilli powder 1/2 teaspoon

Method

Step 1

Heat two tablespoons of ghee in a pan.

Step 2

Add sesame seeds, green chillies, coriander leaves, rock salt, asafetida, red chilli powder and mashed potatoes and mix well.

Step 3

Remove the mixture from heat and set aside to cool.

Step 4

Divide into ten to twelve portions and shape them into round tikkis.

Step 5

Heat sufficient ghee on a tawa and shallow fry the tikkis till both the sides are evenly golden.

Step 6

Drain on absorbent paper.

Step 7

Serve hot with green chutney or lemon pickle.
