Why is it that when you are stuck at “what should we cook today” the answer is always “make some aloo!” Potatoes are like this…extremely popular and have multipurpose usage.

And did you always think that eating a potato will make you fat?
Well, don’t – it is a surprising source of vitamin C and provides useful amounts of starch, thiamine and niacin and around a hundred grams will provide about eighty calories.

Ingredients for Aloo Basar Recipe

  • potatoes thickly sliced 3 medium

  • Onions thin slices 4 medium

  • Oil 5 tablespoons

  • Green chillies chopped 3

  • Tomatoes chopped 3 medium

  • Red chilli powder 2 teaspoons

  • Coriander powder 2 teaspoons

  • Turmeric powder 1/4 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Fresh coriander leaves chopped 1 tablespoon


Step 1

Heat oil in a non-stick kadai. Add the onions and sauté for three to four minutes. Add the green chillies and sauté for another minute.

Step 2

Add tomatoes and cook for five to seven minutes. Add red chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder and salt and cook for another two minutes.

Step 3

Add the potatoes and cook covered for eight to ten minutes or until the potatoes are completely cooked. Remove from fire.

Step 4

Serve hot garnished with coriander leaves.
