The cuisine of The United States is a rich amalgamation of peoples, religions and cultures thanks to the immigrants from different parts of the world.  They brought with them their local ingredients as well as cooking styles with them.  Yet amidst all these varieties Chinese and Italian cuisines dominate.  
During the 18th and 19th centuries, the Americans developed a number of new foods.  What characterised the American cuisine is the adaptation of a fusion of multiple ethnic cooking styles. During this period food production and presentation became more industrialised.

Ingredients for Coffee Muffins Recipe

  • Coffee 4 tablespoons

  • Refined flour ¾ cup

  • butter 7 tablespoons

  • castor sugar ? cup

  • eggs 2

  • baking powder 1 teaspoon

  • Icing sugar for dusting

  • Frosting

  • cream cheese ½ cup

  • butter 2 tablespoons

  • powdered sugar 1 cup

  • coffee powder 1 tablespoon


Step 1

Preheat oven at 180°C.

Step 2

Cream together butter and sugar in a bowl till light.

Step 3

Add eggs and whisk well. Beat till fluffy with an electric beater.

Step 4

Add coffee powder, baking powder and beat again till well mixed.

Step 5

Add refined flour and fold lightly.

Step 6

Fill 8 individual silicon muffin moulds and place them on a baking tray and put the tray in the preheated oven. Bake for 18-20 minutes.

Step 7

To make frosting, combine cream cheese, butter and powdered sugar in a bowl and mix well. Dissolve coffee powder in water and add the decoction in the bowl. Mix well and refrigerate for 15-20 minutes.

Step 8

Remove muffins from oven, demould and cool to room temperature. Spread frosting on each muffin and dust with icing sugar. Serve
