At one time French cuisine was heavily influenced by Italian cuisine.  It was in the 17th century that some chefs led a movement that developed France’s own indigenous style by shifting it away from its foreign influences. Cheese and wine are a major part of the cuisine, playing different roles regionally and nationally, with many variations.
French cuisine was codified in the 20th century as the modern haute cuisine. Knowledge of French cooking has contributed significantly to Western cuisines and its criteria are used widely in Western cookery school boards and culinary education. 
French regional cuisine is characterized by its extreme diversity and style. Traditionally, each region of France has its own distinctive cuisine.

Ingredients for Bailey’s Irish Cream Mousse Recipe

  • Irish cream 3 tablespoons

  • Chocolate cookies crushed 2 cups

  • Unsalted butter 1/3 cup

  • Milk 1/2 cup

  • Gelatin 1 1/2 teaspoons

  • Powdered sugar 1/2 cup

  • Chocolate shavings as required


Step 1

Preheat oven to 180ºC.

Step 2

Melt butter in the microwave oven. Take crushed cookies in a bowl. Add melted butter and mix.

Step 3

Take ovenproof glass bowls and line their base with the cookie mixture. Press lightly and keep them in the preheated oven and bake for eight to ten minutes.

Step 4

Heat milk in a pan. Add gelatine and half the powdered sugar and stir till sugar and gelatine get dissolved completely. Strain the mixture into another bowl and set aside to cool.

Step 5

 Whisk fresh cream with the remaining powdered sugar till stiff peaks form.

Step 6

Take the glass bowls out of the oven and cool. Add Irish cream and the milk-gelatine mixture to the whisked cream and mix. Pour over the cookie base and chill in the refrigerator.

Step 7

Decorate with chocolate shavings and serve chilled.
