Paneer Manchurian

A wonderful combination of oriental condiments and cottage cheese. Paneer manchurian is an Indo- Chinese recipe that is very popular in the Indian restaurants. Batter fried paneer is added to the Manchurian sauce.

Ingredients

  • 250 grams cottage cheese (paneer), cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 4 tablespoons refined flour 
  • 4 tablespoons cornflour
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoons ginger paste
  • 1 tablespoons garlic paste
  • 2 tablespoons oil + for deep-frying 
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 5-6 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 1 inch ginger, finely chopped
  • 1 green chilli, finely chopped
  • 2 spring onion bulbs, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato sauce
  • 2 teaspoons vinegar
  • 2 stalks spring onion greens, chopped
  • Red bell pepper curls for garnishing

Method

  1. Mix together the cottage cheese, refined flour, two tablespoons cornflour and salt in a bowl.
  2. Add the ginger paste and garlic paste and mix. Sprinkle some water and mix well.
  3. Heat sufficient oil in a non-stick wok and deep-fry the cottage cheese till golden. Drain on absorbent paper and set aside.
  4. Heat two tablespoons oil in another non-stick wok and add onion, garlic, ginger, green chilli and sauté for a few seconds. Add the spring onions bulbs and salt and sauté for one minute. 
  5. Mix the remaining cornflour in four tablespoons of water. Set aside.
  6. Add the soy sauce and tomato sauce and mix. Add one cup of water and bring to a boil. Add the cornflour slurry and cook till the mixture thickens.
  7. Add the fried cottage cheese and mix well. Add vinegar and chopped spring onion and mix well. 
  8. Garnish with bell pepper curls and serve hot.
