Indian cuisine comprises of a number of regional cuisines.  The diversity in soil type, climate, culture, ethnic group and occupations, these cuisines differ from each other mainly due to the use of locally available spices, herbs, vegetables and fruits. Indian food is also influenced by religious and cultural choices and traditions. 
Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Murgh Tikka Masala Recipe

  • Readymade chicken (murgh) tikka 400 grams

  • Oil 2 tablespoons

  • Garlic , chopped 1 tablespoon

  • Ginger , finely chopped 1 inch piece

  • Onions , chopped 2 medium

  • Tomatoes , chopped 2 medium

  • Salt to taste

  • Tomato puree 2 cups

  • Coriander powder 1 teaspoon

  • Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon

  • Green cardamom powder 1/4 teaspoon

  • Garam masala powder 1 teaspoon

  • Cashewnut paste 2 tablespoons

  • Dried fenugreek leaves powder 1 teaspoon

  • Butter 2 tablespoons

  • Mixed vegetable cubes (onion, green capsicum, red capsicum) 1 1/2 cups

  • Khoya (mawa) 1/4 cup

  • Fresh cream 2 tablespo + for drizzling

  • Honey 1 tablespoon

  • Steamed rice to serve


Step 1

Heat oil in a deep non-stick pan, add garlic and ginger, mix and sauté for 30 seconds. Add onions, mix and sauté till translucent.

Step 2

Add tomatoes, mix and sauté till soft. Add salt and mix. Add tomato puree, mix, cover and cook for 15-20 minutes.

Step 3

Add coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, green cardamom powder and garam masala powder, mix and sauté for 1 minute.

Step 4

Add cashewnut paste, mix and sauté for 1 minute. Add dried fenugreek leaves powder and mix well. Add butter and mix well.

Step 5

Add mixed vegetable cubes, mix and cook for 1-2 minutes. Add chicken tikka, mix and cook for 1 minute.

Step 6

Add khoya and mix till it melts. Add 2 tablespoons cream and mix. Add honey and mix well.

Step 7

Transfer into a serving bowl, drizzle some cream on top and serve hot with steamed rice.
