During the 18th and 19th centuries, the Americans developed a number of new foods.  What characterised the American cuisine is the adaptation of a fusion of multiple ethnic cooking styles. During this period food production and presentation became more industrialised.

Ingredients for Chowli and Brown Rice Stew Recipe

  • Black eyed beans soaked and boiled 1 cup

  • Brown Rice soaked 2 tablespoons

  • Olive oil 1 tablespoon

  • Bay leaf 1

  • Garlic chopped 1 tablespoon

  • Onions chopped 2 medium

  • Carrot peeled 1 medium

  • Potato peeled 1 medium

  • Salt to taste

  • Crushed black peppercorns 1 teaspoon

  • Arrabiata sauce 1 bottle

Method

Step 1

Heat olive oil in a deep non stick pan, add bay leaf, garlic and onions and saute for 2 minutes. Cut carrot into large chunks and add to the pan. Cut potato into ¾ inch cubes and add.

Step 2

Add black eyed beans, brown rice, 3 cups water, salt, crushed black peppercorns and mix well. Cover and cook till rice and vegetables get completely cooked.

Step 3

Add arrabiata sauce and mix well and cook for 2 minutes more. Add a little freshly crushed peppercorns and mix well. Transfer into a serving bowl and serve hot.
