Behind every man, there’s a woman; here too!
Unlike Mother's Day, Father's Day has comparatively lighter roots, and you will be surprised to know that it was actually created by a woman! According to the gathered facts, in 1909, an American woman named Sonora Smart Dodd was raised by a widower. She was born in a Sebastian County in the year 1982, where her mother passed away when she was just 16 years old. Her father, William Smart, raised her all by himself along with her 5 young brothers. This bothered Sonora that there was no such day to honour her civil war veteran father. So, she took efforts to create an official day holding equal importance as Mother’s Day for the male parents.

In the year 1924, President Calvin Coolidge was the first American president to support the concept of Father’s day. However, it wasn’t until the year 1966 that President Lyndon Johnson signed a presidential proclamation that resulted in the declaration of the third Sunday of June as Father’s Day.
According to the greeting card selling company Hallmark, Father’s Day is the 5th largest card-sending holiday.
In Germany, Father’s Day is celebrated in a distinctive style as compared to the rest of the world; by getting drunk with wagons of beer and indulging in regional food.
