Organize your refrigerator

There’s always a fundamental food issue for all refrigerator owners: What to put where and how to go about it! To begin with, there are no hard and fast rules that could be potential guidelines to refrigerator organization. Yes, some items like frozen foods, obviously go in the definite place which is the ‘freezer’, but what about leftovers? We need to know where exactly those can be put, and if we fail to implement a proper system for this, there’s definitely a chaos ahead!

One basic observation is that the oldest stuff moves to the back as and when newer items come in. Boxes get jammed by getting placed on top of one another and in such cases spills are very common, and clearing spills inside a fridge is a tedious job! The same goes with vegetables and fruits, where, if they are not managed, you might just end up ordering extra quantities.

So, let’s just follow a simple refrigerator management theory that comes to you in the form of tips like:-

Control humidity

Setting it higher for vegetables than for fruits is preferable. If you find it difficult to adjust the settings, you might as well leave the drawer with moisture-craving items like lettuce, celery, slightly open.

Note dates of freezing

Keeping a pen or a pencil near your refrigerator is useful which also helps in writing down the use-by date on items that need to go into the freezer.

Use clear containers

It is highly recommended to use clear containers whenever possible, so it's easy to see what's kept where and then there is a less possibility of meals simply hiding into corners! Keep everything covered as this will prevent intermingling of odours.

Store beverages right

Using the side doors for keeping bottles and jugs is a good practice, as they can handle these weights. To save room and reduce oxidization, all half used bottles can be transferred into smaller containers.

Overcrowding is a no-no

The cooling inside the fridge will not happen effectively if it is super packed with extra items. Leaving at least one inch space between items is a good thing while storing them so that the cool air can circulate freely. It is considered okay to jam the freezer though!
