Ashwagandha is the popular ayurvedic ingredient which we Indians have been using for more than two millennia now. What exactly does the word ‘Ashwagandha’ mean?

Just like many other words in the Hindi dictionary, this word is also adapted from Sanskrit. Ashwa means “Horse” and Gandha means “fragrance/smell”. But, why is it called so? It is believed that one who intakes this superfood becomes energised and strong just like a horse.  Can you believe it?

Ashwagandha is native to India and North Africa; it is a tiny medicinal shrub with yellow flowers and is propagated from the seeds, its plant and stems have extraordinary health benefits too. In India, you can find it everywhere, but it is mostly found in parts of sub-tropical areas, because it is grown in dry soil.  Major states which grow this herb are Punjab, Gujarat, Haryana and Maharashtra.
