Char Dal Ni Khichdi

Ingredients list for Char Dal Ni Khichdi

  • 3/4 cup Rice soaked
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons Split pigeon pea (toor dal/arhar dal) soaked
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons Split red lentil (masoor dal) soaked
  • 3 tablespoons Split green gram skinless (dhuli moong dal),soaked
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons Split field beans (val ki dal) soaked
  • 3 tablespoons Desi ghee
  • 1 inch stick Cinnamon
  • 1 Black cardamom
  • 3-4 Cloves
  • 2 medium Onions sliced
  • 1/4 bunch Fresh coriander leaves
  • 10-15 Fresh mint leaves
  • 1 inch piece Ginger
  • 1/2 cup Buttermilk
  • to taste Sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder

  1. Heat desi ghee in a pressure cooker, add cinnamon, black cardamom, cloves and onions and saute. Grind coriander leaves, mint leaves, ginger and buttermilk till smooth.
  2. Add field beans, pigeon pea, split lentils and green gram to the cooker and mix. Add rice and mix. Add sea salt, turmeric powder and spiced buttermilk and mix. Add 3½ cups water and mix.
  3. When the mixture comes to a boil, cover the cooker and cook under pressure till 3-4 whistles are given out. Serve hot.
