Spicy Pita Roll

One can find plenty of starches, whole grain, fruits, vegetables, fresh fish and seafood in Lebanese cuisine.  Animal fats are rarely used. More of poultry than red meat is eaten.  When red meat is eaten it is usually lamb in the coastal and goat meat in the mountain regions. It also uses ample amounts of garlic and olive oil, often seasoned with lemon juice. Olive oil, herbs, garlic and lemon are typical flavours found in the Lebanese diet.
Foods here are mostly grilled, baked or sautéed in olive oil. Butter or cream is rarely used other than in a few desserts. Vegetables are often eaten raw, pickled or cooked. Herbs and spices are used and the Lebanese are very particular of the freshness of ingredients. Like most Mediterranean countries, much of what the Lebanese eat depends on the seasons. Lebanese recipes are a rich mixture of a variety of ingredients that come from all the Lebanese regions, and each Lebanese area has its own special dishes that bespeak the culture of the area.

Spicy Pita Roll Recipe - How to make Spicy Pita Roll

  • Round pita breads 4


  • Cabbage grated6 tablespoons

  • Carrot grated6 tablespoons

  • Garlic yogurt sauce 2 tablespoons

  • Tomato ketchup 2 tablespoons

  • Red chilli sauce 2 teaspoons

  • Mint mayonnaise 4 tablespoons

  • Iceberg lettuce chopped4 leaves

  • Black olives halved4


  • Garlic paste 1/2 teaspoon

  • Thick yogurt 2 tablespoons


  • Mayonnaise 4 tablespoons

  • Mint chutney 1 teaspoon


Step 1

Mix cabbage, carrot, garlic yogurt sauce, tomato ketchup and red chilli sauce and mix.

Step 2

Heat a non stick tawa on medium heat. Place one pita bread on the tawa at a time and let them heat through.

Step 3

Place the heated pita breads on work top. Spread some mint mayonnaise all over each of them. Place a quarter of the above salad at one end of each bread. Sprinkle lettuce leaves and roll the pita bread tightly.

Step 4

Halve the rolls diagonally and place on a serving bread. String a black olive half on a toothpick and prick it on one side of each pita roll.

Step 5

Serve immediately.
