Red Lentil Rice Recipe - how to make Red Lentil Rice

  • Red lentils soaked overnight1/2 cup

  • Rice soaked1 cup

  • Ghee 3 tablespoons

  • Green cardamom 3

  • Cloves 3

  • One inch Cinnamon sticks 2

  • Black peppercorns 6

  • Ginger-garlic paste 2 tablespoons

  • Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon

  • Turmeric powder 1/4 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Garam masala powder 1 teaspoon

  • Lemon juice 2 teaspoons

  • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped3 tablespoons


Step 1

Heat ghee in a deep non-stick pan, add cardamom, cloves, cinnamon and peppercorns and sauté for a minute.

Step 2

Add ginger-garlic paste, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and sauté for a minute.

Step 3

Drain and add rice and red lentils and saute of a few minutes.

Step 4

Add three cups water and salt, cook till the rice and lentils are soft and mashed.

Step 5

Sprinkle garam masala powder and add lemon juice. Mix well.

Step 6

Serve hot garnished with coriander leaves.
