Lauki Manpasand  Recipe

Bottle gourd cooked with moong badi and spices.

Bottle gourd (lauki/doodhi), Oil

  • Bottle gourd (lauki/doodhi) 1 inch pieces
    1 kilogram
  • Oil
    2 tablespoons
  • Moong badi
    1/2 cup
  • Whole dry red chillies
  • Onion chopped
    1 large
  • Salt
    to taste
  • Turmeric powder
    1/4 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder
    2 teaspoon
  • Curry powder
    1 teaspoon
  • Red chilli powder
    1/2 teaspoon
  • Garam masala powder
    1/2 teaspoon
  • Ginger chopped
    1 inch piece
  • Tomatoes 1/4 inch pieces
    2 medium
  • Green capsicum 1/4 inch pieces
    1 medium
  • Fresh coriander leaves chopped
    2 tablespoons


Step 1

Heat one tablespoon oil in a pan and sauté the moong badi for two to three minutes.

Step 2

Drain and set aside. Add the remaining oil to the pan and heat.

Step 3

Add whole red chillies and onion and sauté for two minutes.

Step 4

Add lauki and salt and mix. Cover and cook for two minutes.

Step 5

Add turmeric powder, coriander power, cumin powder, red chilli powder, garam masala powder, ginger and tomatoes.

Step 6

Mix well and continue to cook two to three minutes.

Step 7

Add moong badi and half a cup of water. Mix, reduce heat, cover and cook till the lauki is done.

Step 8

Add green capsicums and coriander leaves. Mix and cook for a minute. Serve hot.
