Why is it that when you are stuck at “what should we cook today” the answer is always “make some aloo!” Potatoes are like this…extremely popular and have multipurpose usage.

And did you always think that eating a potato will make you fat?
Well, don’t – it is a surprising source of vitamin C and provides useful amounts of starch, thiamine and niacin and around a hundred grams will provide about eighty calories.

Ingredients for Khasta Aloo Chaat Recipe

  • Potatoes boiled, peeled and mashed 4 medium

  • Oil for deep-frying

  • Salt to taste

  • Cornflour/ corn starch 2 tablespoons

  • Yogurt as required

  • Green chutney as required

  • Date and tamarind chutney as required

  • Red chilli-garlic chutney as required

  • Chaat masala to sprinkle

  • Sev as required

  • Red chilli powder to sprinkle

  • Fresh coriander leaves chopped for garnishing

Method

Step 1

Heat sufficient oil in a kadai.

Step 2

Combine potatoes, salt and cornflour in a bowl and mix.

Step 3

Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape them into tikkis.

Step 4

Deep-fry tikkis in hot oil till golden and crisp. Drain on absorbent paper.

Step 5

Place tikkis in individual serving platters and break them with a fork. Drizzle some yogurt, green chutney and date-tamarind chutney on top.

Step 6

Put some red chilli-garlic chutney and sprinkle some chaat masala on top. Put some sev and sprinkle some chilli powder on top.

Step 7

Serve immediately garnished with coriander leaves.
