Why is it that when you are stuck at “what should we cook today” the answer is always “make some aloo!” Potatoes are like this…extremely popular and have multipurpose usage.

And did you always think that eating a potato will make you fat?
Well, don’t – it is a surprising source of vitamin C and provides useful amounts of starch, thiamine and niacin and around a hundred grams will provide about eighty calories.

Dum aloo Recipe - How to make Dum aloo


Prep Time : 26-30 minutes

Cook time : 11-15 minutes

  • Baby potatoes peeled1 packet

  • Onion chopped1 large

  • Oil 3 tablespoons

  • Ginger-garlic paste 1 tablespoon

  • Cloves 4

  • Bay leaves 2

  • Peppercorns 8

  • Green cardamoms 4

  • Cinnamon 1 inch stick

  • Tomato chopped 1 large

  • Onion paste 1/4 cup

  • Garam masala 1 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Yogurt whisked 2 cup


Step 1

Prick the potatoes and deep fry them till golden.

Step 2

Drain and remove on absorbent paper.Heat oil in a non stick pan, add onion, ginger garlic paste, cloves, bay leaf, peppercorns, cardamoms and cinnamon stick. Saute till brown.

Step 3

Add chopped tomato, onion paste and little water. Mix well and allow the mixture to boil.Add garam masala, salt and curd. Toss well add ½ cup water and fried potatoes.Cook on low heat till gravy thickens.

Step 4

Serve hot.
