The cuisine of The United States is a rich amalgamation of peoples, religions and cultures thanks to the immigrants from different parts of the world.  They brought with them their local ingredients as well as cooking styles with them.  Yet amidst all these varieties Chinese and Italian cuisines dominate.  
During the 18th and 19th centuries, the Americans developed a number of new foods.  What characterised the American cuisine is the adaptation of a fusion of multiple ethnic cooking styles. During this period food production and presentation became more industrialised.

Ingredients for Cold Cucumber Soup Recipe

  • Cucumber peeled 8 medium

  • Ginger chopped 4 inch piece

  • Green chillies chopped 8

  • Salt to taste

  • Buttermilk 4 cups

  • White pepper powder 1 teaspoon

  • Lemon juice 2 tablespoons

  • Red capsicum finely chopped 1


Step 1

For each portion halve 2 cucumbers lengthways and scoop out the seeds.

Step 2

Cut into chunks and put in a blender jar.

Step 3

Add 1 ginger, 2 green chillies, salt, 1 cup buttermilk and blend to a fine puree.

Step 4

Add ¼ tsp white pepper powder and ½ tbsp lemon juice and blend again.

Step 5

Pour into a soup bowl, sprinkle some red capsicum and chill in a refrigerator. Serve chilled.
