Cheesy Scotch Eggs

Boiled eggs covered with a mixture of cheese, mashed potatoes and cream, rolled in bread crumbs and deep fried to a golden brown. This is a Sanjeev Kapoor exclusive recipe.

Ingredients list for Cheesy Scotch Eggs

  • 5 Eggs
  • 6 medium Potatoes boiled and mashed
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • to taste Black pepper powder
  • 2 tablespoons Refined flour (maida)
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh cream
  • 2 tablespoons Cheese grated
  • to taste Salt
  • to coat Bread crumbs
  • to deep fry Oil

Method

  1. Boil three cups of water. Gently slide in four eggs and continue to boil for ten minutes.
  2. Drain, cool and shell. Take mashed potatoes in a bowl. Add Worcestershire sauce, pepper powder, refined flour, fresh cream, grated cheese and salt and mix into a soft dough.
  3. Take a ball of the dough and spread on your palms. Place an egg in the center and cover it on all sides with the dough.
  4. Beat the remaining egg well. Dip the prepared Scotch egg in it. Roll it in dried breadcrumbs.
  5. Repeat this process once more and gently shape it between two palms to resemble an egg.
  6. Similarly prepare the remaining eggs. Heat sufficient oil in a deep pan. When it is hot, slowly slide in the prepared eggs.
  7. Gently turn them in the hot oil till they are browned to a golden brown on all sides. Drain on absorbent paper and serve hot with a sauce of your choice.
