Cheesy Scotch Eggs

Boiled eggs covered with a mixture of cheese, mashed potatoes and cream, rolled in bread crumbs and deep fried to a golden brown.

  • Eggs
  • Potatoes boiled and mashed
    6 medium
  • Worcestershire sauce
    1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper powder
    to taste
  • Refined flour (maida)
    2 tablespoons
  • Fresh cream
    2 tablespoons
  • Cheese grated
    2 tablespoons
  • Salt
    to taste
  • Bread crumbs
    to coat
  • Oil
    to deep fry


Step 1

Boil three cups of water. Gently slide in four eggs and continue to boil for ten minutes.

Step 2

Drain, cool and shell. Take mashed potatoes in a bowl. Add Worcestershire sauce, pepper powder, refined flour, fresh cream, grated cheese and salt and mix into a soft dough.

Step 3

Take a ball of the dough and spread on your palms. Place an egg in the center and cover it on all sides with the dough.

Step 4

Beat the remaining egg well. Dip the prepared Scotch egg in it. Roll it in dried breadcrumbs.

Step 5

Repeat this process once more and gently shape it between two palms to resemble an egg.

Step 6

Similarly prepare the remaining eggs. Heat sufficient oil in a deep pan. When it is hot, slowly slide in the prepared eggs.

Step 7

Gently turn them in the hot oil till they are browned to a golden brown on all sides. Drain on absorbent paper and serve hot with a sauce of your choice.
