Ingredients list for Tamarind Leaves Dal

  • 1/4 cup Tamarind Leaves
  • 1/2 cup Split Pigeon Pea soaked
  • 1/2 cup Split green gram skinless (dhuli moong dal) soaked
  • 1 medium Onion
  • 2 tablespoons Oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 10-12 Curry leaves
  • 3 Green chillies
  • to taste Salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder

Method

  1. Roughly chop onion.
    Heat oil in a pressure cooker.
  2. Add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, curry leaves and onion and saute for 2 minutes.
    Add tuvar dal and moong dal and mix.
  3. Slit green chillies and add.
    Add salt and turmeric powder and mix.
  4. Add 2 cups water and tamarind leaves and mix.
    Cover the cooker with the lid and cook under pressure till 3 whistles are given out.
  5. Let it remain in the cooker for 10 minutes.
    Open the lid and serve hot.
