Ingredients list for Sabut Masoor Ki Dal

  • 1 cup Lentils
  • to taste Tomatoes
  • 1 inch piece Ginger finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 2 Bay leaves
  • 1 medium Tomato finely chopped
  • 2-3 Green chillies slit
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garam masala powder
  • 1 teaspoon Coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon Red chilli powder
  • a few sprigs Fresh coriander leaves chopped

Method

  1. Wash and cook lentils with four cups of water, salt and ginger in a pressure cooker till three whistles. Heat oil in a kadai, add cumin seeds and bay leaves.
  2. When the cumin seeds begin to change colour, add tomatoes and stir-fry till fat separates.
  3. Add green chillies, garam masala powder, coriander powder and red chilli powder and sauté for a minute. Add cooked lentils to the mixture and bring to a boil.
  4. Simmer for about ten minutes. Serve hot garnished with chopped coriander leaves.
