Pulao Khichdi

Main Ingredients

Rice, Split green gram skinless (dhuli moong dal)

  • Rice soaked
    1 cup
  • Split green gram skinless (dhuli moong dal)
    1/4 cup
  • Pure ghee
    2 tablespoons
  • Bay leaves torn
  • Cloves
  • Cauliflower florets cut into small pieces
    6-8 large
  • Carrots cut into 1 inch pieces
    1 1/2 medium
  • French beans cut into 1 inch diamonds
  • Shelled green peas
    1/4 cup
  • Green chillies slit
  • Salt
    to taste
  • Turmeric powder
    1/2 teaspoon


Step 1

Dry roast the moong dal in a non stick kadai till brown. Heat the ghee in a pressure cooker. Add the bay leaves and cloves.

Step 2

Add the cauliflower, carrots and French beans and sauté till brownish in colour. Add the peas and mix well. Add the rice, green chillies, salt and turmeric powder.

Step 3

Mix well. Add the roasted dal and six cups of water.

Step 4

When the mixture comes to a boil, put the lid on and cook under pressure till pressure is released three to four times (three to four whistles). Serve hot.
