Open Mushroom Sandwich

During the 18th and 19th centuries, the Americans developed a number of new foods.  What characterised the American cuisine is the adaptation of a fusion of multiple ethnic cooking styles. During this period food production and presentation became more industrialised.

Ingredients

  • Mushrooms, sliced400 grams

  • Brown bread slices 8

  • Butter 1 tablespoon

  • Onion finely chopped1 small

  • Green chilli finely chopped1

  • Dried oregano 1/2 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Fresh parsley chopped1 tablespoon

  • Processed cheese grated2 tablespoons

Method

Step 1

Heat the butter in a non-stick pan and sauté the onions till they are translucent.

Step 2

Add the green chilli and sauté for a few seconds. Add the mushrooms, oregano and salt.

Step 3

Cook for a few minutes on very high heat until the mushrooms soften.

Step 4

Divide into eight equal portions and keep aside.

Step 5

Apply butter on bread slices. Heat a non-stick tawa and toast the bread slices till they are golden on both the sides.

Step 6

Top each toast with a portion of the mushroom mixture and grated cheese.

Step 7

Place the toasts on a plate and toast in microwave HIGH (100%) for one minute.

Step 8

Remove from microwave and cool.

Step 9

Cut each toast into triangles, garnish with the parsley and serve immediately.
