How many times have we thought rice is a blessing? We use it for holy purposes but we also can pressure up a quick pulao or khichdi when hunger pangs are drumming away! This is one grain that is about 98% percent digestible. In India we are familiar with Basmati, Patna or brown rice but it is also available as Italian Rice and Glutinous Rice which is popular in Chinese and Japanese cuisines.

Ingredients for Methiwale Chawal Recipe

  • Basmati rice soaked and drained 1 1/2 cups

  • Fresh fenugreek leaves (methi) finely chopped 2 cups

  • Oil 2 tablespoons

  • Onion 1 medium

  • Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Tomatoes finely chopped 2 medium

  • Turmeric powder 1/4 teaspoon

  • Coriander powder 1 tablespoon

  • Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon


Step 1

Heat oil in a non-stick pan. Slice onion.

Step 2

Add cumin seeds and onion to the pan and sauté till onion is translucent.

Step 3

Add fenugreek leaves and mix well. Add salt and mix again and saute for 2-3 minutes.

Step 4

Add tomatoes, turmeric powder and coriander powder and mix well. Add rice and 3 cups water and mix well. Add red chilli powder and mix well. Cover and cook on medium heat till the rice is done.

Step 5

Transfer into a serving plate and serve hot.
