Mix sugar, butter, and chopped dates with lukewarm water and mix well. Beat the eggs slightly. Sieve flour and soda together and mix chopped walnuts into it. Mix the flour and date mixture together and blend well. Add eggs and mix thoroughly. Put this mixture in a greased cake mould and bake in a preheated oven at 225°F for 30-40 minutes. Remove and sprinkle icing sugar on top. Slice and serve warm.
