Corn was indigenous to America, but is now grown throughout the world. It is used as a vegetable, briefly boiled or roasted or eaten with butter. And it would also interest you to know that the favourite popcorn, made by popping the small corn kernels, is a wholesome cereal food and is easily digested. Besides this, corn sees its use in various other ways – salads, soups, subzis and even sweets too!

Ingredients for Cornmeal Fritters Recipe

  • Cornmeal 1/2 cup

  • Milk 1 cup

  • Margarine 2 tablespoons

  • Salt to taste

  • Baking powder 1 teaspoon

  • Sugar 1 tablespoon

  • Vanilla essence 2 drops

  • Refined flour (maida) 1/2 cup

  • Egg beaten 1

  • Oil to deep fry


Step 1

Mix refined flour and cornmeal in a bowl.

Step 2

Add margarine, salt, baking powder and rub in till the mixture resembles bread crumbs. Add sugar, vanilla essence and milk and mix. Add egg and mix.

Step 3

Heat sufficient oil in a non-stick kadai. Drop spoons full of batter into the hot oil and deep fry until golden and crisp. Drain on absorbent paper.

Step 4

Serve hot.
