Ingredients list for Saffron and Basil Breadsticks

  • a pinch Saffron (kesar)
  • 1-1½ table Fresh basil leaves chopped
  • 1 cup + 1 Refined flour (maida)
  • ½ teaspoon Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 180º C. Grease a baking tray with oil.
  2. Add saffron to three-fourth cup of water and set aside.
  3. Put yeast in a bowl, add one tablespoon warm water and set aside for two minutes to activate.
  4. Put flour in a bowl, add salt, dissolved yeast and water as required and knead into a soft dough. Add one teaspoon oil and knead again. Divide the dough into small equal portions.
  5. Grease your palms with a little oil and roll the portions into thin long sticks. Place them on the baking tray and set aside for ten to fifteen minutes to prove.
  6. Place the tray in the preheated oven and bake for twenty minutes or till golden.
  7. Remove, cool and serve as an accompaniment with soups.
