Ingredients for Moongan Ji Dal Recipe

  • Whole green grams (sabut moong) soaked overnight 2 cups

  • Tomato chopped 1 large

  • Onion chopped 1 large

  • Garlic chopped 2-36 cloves

  • Green chillies chopped 4 cloves

  • Curry leaves 4-5

  • Turmeric powder 1/4 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Oil 2 tablespoons

  • Cumin seeds 1/2 teaspoon

  • Asafoetida 1/4 teaspoon

  • Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon


Step 1

Pressure cook the moong with tomato, onion, garlic, green chillies, curry leaves, turmeric powder and salt and three cups of water.

Step 2

Cook till the pressure is released thrice.

Step 3

Heat oil in a small pan and add cumin seeds. Once they begin to change colour, add asafoetida.

Step 4

Remove from heat and add red chilli powder. Add this tempering to the dal.

Step 5

Serve hot with chapattis.
