A colourful tradition

CROWDS of people flocked yesterday to the Marina Beach Club to celebrate the colourful Indian festival of Holi.

The day-long Skoda Rang de Bahrain 2013 event was organised by LuLu Hypermarket and supported by Ahmed Zayani and Sons in association with Eventscom and Nightshift Entertainment.

Holi marks the beginning of the spring season, commemorating good harvests and fertile land.

The event, for adults and children, featured a traditional Indian village set up comprising a vintage 'bail gaadi' (bullock cart), a traditional makeshift hut and a market area.

It included music by DJ Akbar Sami, a renowned celebrity DJ from India, as well as many other performing artists from across the region such as DJ Akanksha Popli (India), DJ Aks (UAE), DJ Andy (Bahrain), DJ Ibbi (Bahrain) and MC Aapka Paresh among many more.

It also incorporated different stalls at the marketplace, including food, accessories, toys, clothes and second-hand items.

A special children's corner consisted of different jumping castles and a trampoline, in addition to face painting and balloon artists.

The food stalls also included Indian delicacies from Sanjeev Kapoor's restaurant The Yellow Chilli, along with other items from Zayt Zaytoon and Gloria Jean's.

A special complimentary drink called the 'Nakhli Bhang' was given to every person at the venue.
