Winter is here! So is the season of comfort food and nothing fits the bill more a hearty stew! Here are 7 recipes from across the globe that will warm you up and satisfy your hunger pangs on cold winter nights!

Goan Style Chicken stew          

Like everything else Goan, this stew is meant to bring you to a state of susegad. Chicken pieces on the bone sautéed with mild spices, capsicum and onion strips and broiled in a light coconut milk base. This stew has just the right amount of spice to warm you up on a cold winter evening. Serve hot with pav or rice!

Moroccan Chicken Tagine with chickpeas and mint

Tender chicken, mushy chickpeas, carrots and beans cooked in an earthen tagine till all the flavours are beautifully mingled and the chicken is succulent and juicy. A generous sprinkling of fresh mint leaves at the end takes this Mediterranean classic to another level. Have it right off the tagine with some fresh pita bread.

Spanish Style Seafood Stew with Burnt Chillies and Saffron

If you are a fan of seafood, this Spanish style stew is something that will transport you to food heaven. Rawas fish fillets, prawns and clams cooked in a light tomato-based broth bursting with flavours of burnt red chillies, garlic and saffron. Lamb and Root Vegetable Stew

Hearty and delicious, are the best adjectives to describe this Winter Lamb and Vegetable Stew. Chunks of lamb, potatoes and yams cooked in a lamb broth flavoured with whole spices, dijon mustard, peanut paste and tomatoes. The lamb is tender and the veggies mushy – a perfect combination with bread, rice or even just by itself.

Thai Style Noodles and Vegetables in Coconut Sauce

Made with a base of Thai red curry paste this noodle stew is fiery and perfect to satisfy hunger pangs on cold winter nights. This is a mixed vegetable version made with egg noodles but you can always add your favourite protein to it.

Vegetable Buttermilk Stew

 This mixed vegetable stew is light and refreshing. Potatoes, carrots, zucchini, spinach, peas and cauliflower florets cooked in vegetable stock and buttermilk. The stew is thickened with a tiny portion of whole wheat flour. Taste great with rice or rotis!
