Tomato Thokku

Tempered tomatoes and coconut ground to make a thick chutney. This recipe has featured on the show Khanakhazana.

Ingredients list for Tomato Thokku

  • 3 medium Tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons Dried red chillies
  • 2 Whole dry red chillies,broken
  • 10-12 Curry leaves
  • 1 inch piece Ginger,chopped
  • to taste Salt
  • 3 tablespoons Coconut,grated
  • 1/2 teaspoon Mustard seeds

Method

  1. Heat one tablespoon oil in a pan. Add whole red chillies, six curry leaves, ginger and tomatoes and cook stirring for three to four minutes. Transfer into a mixer jar. Add salt and coconut and grind to a thick paste.
  2. Heat the remaining oil in another pan. Add mustard seeds. When they splutter add the remaining curry leaves and pour the tempering over the thokku.
