Indian food is also influenced by religious and cultural choices and traditions. 
Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Tiranga bread pakodas Recipe

  • Bread cut into triangles 12 slices

  • Potatoes boiled and peeled 8-10 medium

  • Carrots boiled and mashed 2 medium

  • Salt to taste

  • Red chilli powder 1 1/2 tablespoons

  • Garam masala powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Spinach leaves (palak) blanched and pureed 1 bunch

  • Green chillies chopped 2-3

  • Lemon juice 1 teaspoon

  • Mozzarella cheese 1 cup

  • Gram flour (besan) 2 cups

  • Asafoetida a pinch

  • Carom seeds (ajwain) 1 teaspoon

  • Oil to deep fry

Method

Step 1

Divide the potatoes in three equal portions. To the first portion add carrots, salt, red chilli powder and garam masala. Mix them and set aside.

Step 2

To the second potatoes portion add spinach puree, salt, green chillies and lemon juice. Mix them and set aside.

Step 3

To the third portion add mozzarella cheese and salt and mix well. Mix them and set aside.

Step 4

In a large bowl mix together gram flour, salt, hing, ajwain and water and mix well to form have a batter consistency.

Step 5

Take a bread slice put the spinach filling in the bottom, top it with cheese filling and then with carrot filling and then close it with another filling and press it.

Step 6

Dip the bread in the gram flour mixture. Heat oil in a non-stick kadai. Dip the bread and deep fry them till golden brown in color. Drain on absorbent paper.Follow the same with the remaining bread slices. Serve hot with tomato ketchup.
