Prawn Popcorn

Spicy ground prawns mixed with cornstarch, shaped into small balls and deep fried – so very tasty. This is a Sanjeev Kapoor exclusive recipe.

Ingredients list for Prawn Popcorn

  • 1 cup Prawns (medium) shelled and deveined
  • for deep-frying Oil
  • 8-9 Garlic cloves
  • 1 inch Ginger
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 teaspoon Red chilli flakes
  • to taste Black pepper powder
  • 1 teaspoon Light soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon Vinegar
  • Juice of ½ lemon
  • to taste Salt
  • 1 stalk Spring onion greens diagonally sliced
  • 2-3 tablespoons Cornstarch

Method

  1. Heat sufficient oil in a kadai.
  2. Blend together garlic cloves, ginger, prawns, egg white, chilli flakes, salt, pepper powder, soy sauce, vinegar and lemon juice into a paste. Transfer in a bowl.
  3. Add spring onion greens and cornstarch and mix well.
  4. Drop small portions of prawn mixture in hot oil and deep-fry till golden and crisp. Drain on absorbent paper.
  5. Serve hot with tomato ketchup.
